"A very promising and inspiring debut." Songlines

The self-titled debut album from Glasgow based folktronica five-piece, Inyal. Sensitive and innovative electronics are perfectly balanced against mercurial tunes and evocative Gaelic songs, performed here by Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner, Josie Duncan.

Across its nine tracks, the sound of the album comprises left-field electronica, hip-hop, jazz and orchestral music, all while remaining rooted in the virtuosity and unmistakeable hallmarks of modern folk. Ethereal kalimbas echo around a centuries old waulking song, pulsating synth lines intertwine with nimble, melodic whistle playing, and in the album’s more placid moments, grand pianos rub shoulders with serene field recordings to paint ancient Gaelic song in a subtle, contemporary light.

The album was recorded and mixed by Mattie Foulds (Shooglenifty, Rachel Newton) at Caribou Recording and mastered by Andy ‘Hippy’ Baldwin at London mastering institution, Metropolis. Additional string parts were recorded by BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Charlie Stewart, resulting in an expansive sound which permeates the entire album.
